About our hardwood supplier…

Hardwood, the largest component used in the manufacture of Blockhouse Contract Furniture is from locally grown and managed forests in Pennsylvania.

Certified for chain of custody by SmartWood, a program of the Rainforest Alliance.Wood products certified by SmartWood are recognized as coming from “well-managed” forests, adhering to strict environmental and socioeconomic standards in accordance with the Principles and Criteria of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)

Member of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) program since 1998, part of a core group of forest products companies with a vision and commitment to conserve our resources for the benefit of future generations. Protecting the environment, creating a desirable habitat for wildlife and conserving the forest resource through better timber stand management.

Recycling

Key-Loc reversible cushions and furniture with removable covers extend the core product life cycle by more than 100%. Re-upholstery, rather than total product replacement, avoiding deposits into already overloaded landfills.

Recycled steel is utilized in all components requiring the use of steel

Many upholstery fabrics are available with recycled yarns

Our sawdust is used for fuel and /or farm animal bedding—not dumped into landfills

Environmental Leadership…leaving a smaller carbon footprint

Our factory is located in York PA…we are one of only 88 counties in the US

that use a waste-to-energy facility to manage residual waste that in turn generates electricity. The rest of the country uses 1600 landfills. For every ton of waste processed the USEPA has determined that ONE TON of carbon dioxide emissions are AVOIDED.

Our dust collection system ensures the best possible air quality in our factory, protecting the health of our workers; while meeting DEP Air Quality Standards. Saw dust collected is used for fuel or animal bedding.

Approximately 98% of our orders are shipped “blanket wrapped” to eliminate post-consumer packaging waste.
